Minecraft Java 1.21.11 · Free

The BlockNation Client

A minimap, zoom, proximity voice chat and our own settings menu. One installer puts it in your launcher, and it keeps itself up to date.

BlockNation-Installer.jar · Needs Java, free · Windows, macOS and Linux · Minecraft Launcher, TLauncher and the rest

You do not need it to play: the server takes plain Minecraft 1.21.11 too.

Install in a few minutes

Java first, then three steps.

Before you start: Java

The installer is a small Java program, so your computer needs Java 17 or newer. It is free. The Java inside Minecraft is only for the game itself and cannot open the installer.

Windows

Java 21 for Windows

Run the file you get and press Next until Install. Leave everything as it is: Associate .jar must stay on, so the installer opens with a double-click.

macOS

Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu, About This Mac: "Chip" is Apple, "Processor" is Intel. Open the .pkg you get and follow it.

Linux

In a terminal, on Ubuntu, Debian or Mint:

sudo apt install openjdk-21-jre

On Fedora:

sudo dnf install java-21-openjdk

These are Eclipse Temurin, the free Java from adoptium.net. Already have Java? Type java -version in Command Prompt or Terminal: 17 or higher is enough.

  1. Open the installer

Close your launcher, double-click BlockNation-Installer.jar in your Downloads and press Install. Does it open as a zip instead? See "The installer does not open" below.

  2. Pick it in your launcher

Minecraft Launcher: BlockNation. TLauncher and other launchers: BlockNation-1.21.11. Press Play.

  3. Join

BlockNation is already in your server list.

The installer does not open

It opens in WinRAR or 7-Zip: right-click BlockNation-Installer.jar, Open with, and pick OpenJDK Platform binary (or Java(TM) Platform SE binary).

It says "A Java Exception has occurred": an older Java on your computer opened it. Download the installer again: the one here now finds a newer Java by itself. Still the same? Right-click it, Open with, Choose another app, and pick OpenJDK Platform binary.

Your Mac says it cannot be opened: open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway next to the installer's name.

Nothing happens, or it still will not open: start it by hand. On Windows open Command Prompt (press the Windows key, type cmd, Enter), on a Mac or Linux open Terminal, and type these two lines:

cd Downloads
java -jar BlockNation-Installer.jar

If that says java is not recognised or not found, Java is not installed yet (see above), or the window was open before you installed it: close it and open a new one.

Install it by hand

Download BlockNation-1.21.11.zip and unzip it into the versions folder inside .minecraft. Your launcher then lists BlockNation-1.21.11; the first start downloads the client itself, which can take a minute.

What is in it

Every part has its own switch under Esc, in BlockNation Settings.

  • Minimap

The ground around you from above, in the top corner, and a big map on Y. B sets a waypoint with a name, a colour and a beacon beam. Pick a square map or a round one with a compass. Players near you are arrows in the colour of their set, your clan and allies green; never mobs or caves.

  • Proximity voice chat

Hear the players near you, from where they stand. Push to talk on V, or a microphone that is always on; a microphone icon in the corner shows when you are heard.

  • Zoom

Hold C to zoom in, as in OptiFine. The mouse wheel zooms further while you hold it.

  • Auto sprint

Sprint whenever you walk forward. One key turns it on and off.

  • Low-end mode

Turn the server's particles and animations down or off, one by one or all at once, for more frames on an older PC.

  • Your own keys

Every key of the client can be changed, from one keybinds page. Other client players carry a small badge by their name.

Questions

What does the installer change on my computer?

Only your .minecraft folder: it adds the version BlockNation-1.21.11, a BlockNation entry in the Minecraft Launcher and a blocknation folder for the client. Every file it downloads is checked against the fingerprint we publish.

Can I keep using my own mods?

Fabric mods for 1.21.11 go in .minecraft/blocknation/mods. Your normal mods folder is not loaded by this version, so mods made for other versions cannot crash it.

How do I update or remove it?

It updates itself every time you start it. To remove it, run the installer again and click Uninstall; your other Minecraft versions and worlds are not touched.

Something does not work

Ask in the Discord, and add the file .minecraft/blocknation/boot.log: it says what the client did at its last start.
